Objectivist dating
This girl contacts me via the online dating service, and she's several years younger than me, so what's the catch?
I had a 45 minute phone coverstation with her, and 30 minutes of the conversation was about Ayn Rand. She's a big Ayn Rand fan. She read every single one of her books. Wow, I'm so impressed.
She's probably homelier than her photo suggests. I can't imagine a really hot girl being interested in Ayn Rand.
Of course I should be delighted that an intelligent objectivist girl is interested in me instead of being concerned about her appearance. Except I worry about not being attracted enough to get it up.

LoL. How picky can you be when reaching 4o? Could I put my two cents in? Try an online dating site with video chatrooms like webdate.com. That way you'll know right off the bat if she's attracted enough to "get it up." Good luck poppin that cherry ;D

You would be surprised. I know this huge Rand fan. She even writes for some objectivist blog. She, however, is the cutest girl ever with a body to die for.

You never know, speaking as a girl it could definitely go either way. My very smart friends are usually either uncannily hot or um, yeah, not so hot.

Objectivism is for flakes. There are lots of unintelligent good looking girls (and guys) in my college who are into Ayn Rand. Like Christianity, it provides some "meaning" for dull people to justify their existence.
Now I'd like to see a good looking woman who is into REAL philosophy -- that would be unusual! (Although I have seen some).

Your last paragraph was hilarious.
By the way, every moody, pseudo-intellectual girl I knew in high school (and a few in college) was into Ayn Rand. And plenty of them were "hot."
And I appreciated the last anonymous comment! Since I'm a Christian and all, I'm happy that someone finally explained to me that I'm: A) dull; and B) only using it to justify my existence. Thanks for clearing that up for me! Now I finally can see the light of your REAL philosophy!

You're messin' with us, right? Stirring the pot? Because you can't really be this arrogant and clueless. Can you? Can you?
Regardless, you make me laugh. You're priceless!
Signed,
A woman who considers herself to be intelligent and a cutie, in spite of her advanced age of 40 (and I've been getting laid for 24 years). And my husband of 18 years has no problems getting it up, even after intelligent conversation with me!

Ayn Rand had this whole thing about superior intellects and whatnot, and then blew her credibility by throwing a tantrum and shutting her institutes down when her lover moved on to a women she considered inferior.
Also, to think that reality is external to the mind is a great way to avoid responsibility for your own life.
There is nothing we experience that does not have attributes we impute by way of our own minds.

I'm with Diana, this whole blog has to be a joke...put up for the sole purpose of getting a rise out of people. Good concept. But this just can't be real. Can it?

I agree with the two people who criticized Ayn Rand. They were exactly on target. Ayn completely was a copout, a hypocrite, selfish, and emotionless. And that's what her philosophy was all about.
You said that the Ayn Rand thing was a "catch" but then seemed to end by saying it sounded good. Are you pro or anti Ayn? Similar philosophies are important in dating.
As for geting it up, have you seen a photo? A photo won't tell for sure how you two will hit it off, but at least you can see if there's at least a mild attraction to possibly build on. A nice date where you get to know each other is the only real way.
Don't worry yet about your penis. Baby steps.

god, people, read for content!
he didn't say he was afraid he wouldn't be attracted to her because she was 'intellectual,' he said he was afraid she wasn't as pretty as her photo, which brings me to number two, last 'haven't you seen a photo' commenter: YES HE HAS SEEN A PHOTO OF THE GIRL.
ok, carry on.

Here's what I got when I "read for content":
I can't imagine a really hot girl being interested in Ayn Rand.
Because we all know that looks (or however you define "hotness") and brains simply cannot coexist in the same female. We're just too easily categorized (which is a common theme in this blog) and fit into small little boxes, we women.
Don't get me wrong; I'm a huge fan of Virgin. I just don't think he's for real. (Although if he is for real, it stands to reason he'd be a virgin. And friendless.)
I think this is an entertainment blog, and I think he gets the most entertainment - from sitting back and watching the feathers fly in his comments section. You go, Virg. :)

He would not be creative enough to make some of this stuff up. He really believes all these things about women.
Regardless, Ayn Rand was a cold bitch, and her 'followers' are just looking for an excuse to be selfish and frigid.

Get it up for what?

Webdate.com? I've heard of that. My friend goes there all the time. He says its great for meeting new chicks and stuff. I still have to check it out though so I really can't say. Anyway, at forty you should be married already. Stop being so picky with dates.

Ayn Rand is a pseudo-intellectual cult for high schoolers. If you're still into her after your sophomore year in college you are flaky. But plenty of hot girls are into it. Like someone else said above, it would be more likely to find a hot girl who was into Ayn Rand than a hot girl into something with real intellectual substance.
Lest someone think I am sexist, there is a negative correlation between intellectuality and looks for guys as well.

I can't imagine a really hot girl being interested in Ayn Rand.
???????
Now this is quite annoying because I really dont consider myself a homely girl ((in fact Ive gotten many compliments that go above and beyond))and look at my photos....does a boring, ugly girl photograph and live like I do?
Ive read every book of hers as well, and its not told to be impressive, just to state a fact and to let you know what shes/I'm all about. Shes very gifted and has a lot of great ideas and views about and on life and the human condition.
Maybe you need to meet more actually people love. ( :

If you got it up it wouldn't matter...you don't know what to do with it. There are many hot intelligent women, you may not have met them because they are smart enough not to date someone like you. Has it occured to you that being a prick may be the reason you are a virgin. Homely aging men don't get to be this arrogant. Arrogance is for the beautiful.

Talking about Objectivism, I like some aspects of it but I think it's not the best way to have sex. It says that we should have sex only with people we value. The thing is I barely meet women -I value and I'm physically attracted to- both at the same time.
My advice to have sex is to get drunk and go to clubs/parties. By getting drunk you lower your standards and you behave as a carefree jerk which is something most girls appreciate. At least it worked for me (i never had sex when behaving as a virtuous guy).
Most women i met are disapointing beings (so are men but without the hypocrisy)

Who needs to imagine? Just look at Angelina Jolie.

stop being sooooooooooooooooooo picky. I dont think you know what you want or perhaps you are gay! you are so critical of women. look at yourself first

As an objectivist we tend to be fairly easy on the eyes. In general we are confident people and take pride in ourselves and appearance. It seems you judged a book without even seeing the cover.
